Week 13 -- Day 5

HAPPY LAST FULL DAY OF THE TRIMESTER!!

TODAY is Locker Clean Out. EVERYTHING MUST GO!! Anything you leave behind is trash.

PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! those presentations for Grad Project. If a teacher demands to see your presentation, just accept it. They're here to make sure you don't embarrass yourself next week.

The cubes were decorated beautifully. NOW you must get rid of all of it. If it is not allowed in your cube to help you with a particular Final, then it MUST BE REMOVED. You MAY NOT begin your Finals on Monday until the cube is returned to it's natural gray state.

RETURN YOUR KEYS! Either today OR Tuesday after your last final. If you've lost the key you will be charged $5.

Hello fellow 2016 classmates! For those of you who don't know me I'm Kayla, better known as "the girl with the Afro". I would like your help. I'm conducting my IRP on the comparisons between hair types and conditions of the hair. From you all I'd like volunteers to provide hair and information about your hair to conduct my research. The requirements are:

- At least 6 months of growth or 3 inches of hair measured from the scalp down
- No weaves, braids, or hair with any genetic dysfunction (anyone going through chemotherapy, genetic traits that alter that hair pattern significantly, or qualities that prevent an accurate analysis of the hair)
- Any other hair type is welcome (Natural, Physically Damaged, Chemically Damaged, Colored, etc...)
- Hair must be reasonably clean during extraction process without product buildup or pore blockage of the scalp
- Mild dandruff is fine, not extreme though (to be determined during interview)
- Must be comfortable with having strands plucked for the examination (I PROMISE IT WILL NOT HURT AND YOU WILL NOT GO BALD)

I will only be conducting the interviews for the rest of this trimester and beginning of the next. Hair "extraction" will not happen until the interviews are complete. There are limited spots for each hair type. I will only be taking at max 2 people per hair type AND condition. By this I mean two people with straight natural hair, two people for straight chemically damaged, and so on. Thank you so much for your contribution and I look forward to playing in your hair!

Announcements:
  1. Smelling Pretty: We all appreciate your desire to smell good when you come to school, and maintain that fresh scent throughout the day. Personal hygiene is very important! However, those with asthma and allergies cannot handle the constant reapplying of your Secrets and Body Works scents. Also, it can be, AND IS very annoying to those around you. Do NOT spray or apply ANYTHING in the QR's OR in the hallway. First offense: it will be removed but you can get it back. Second offense: it will be thrown out.
  2. Your Cubes: the following items are NOT to be seen in your cubes--food, cell phones (no you CANNOT CHARGE YOUR PHONE IN YOUR CUBES!) and pretty pretty smelling sprays/lotions. REMOVE THEM IMMEDIATELY.
  3. IL Grades: if you are unhappy with the present state of your IL grade...a few suggestions: 1) DO THE WORK TRACKERS. Yes, these should be done throughout the week AND turned in FRIDAY. That's the way it is. 2) Take the reflection section on the trackers seriously. Doing self assessments on your learning--how you're doing/ what you need more help with, etc--is an IL skill--use it. 3) DO THE SELF ASSESSMENT SURVEY ON FRIDAYS. Just do it. 4) Try and work in a Study Group. If you have any questions/concerns/confusion email Warren.

Good morning Class of 2016,

Week 6 is coming to a close.Take a hard look at what you need to do in order to end this week successfully. You can be successful, if you make realistic plans and force yourself to stick to them.
Speak with your teachers about your progress in your courses and make an effort to prepare for courses well in advance of the time for the actual course.  The trimester will eventually come to a close and you must prepare now in order for you to be happy with the end results.

Picture Retake Day

Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement. - Golda Meir

Good morning Class of 2016,

With each waking moment of the day you make the decision to either craft the life you want or be complacent about your current status in life. Be proud of the effort you give in your classes, be cognizant of your interactions with others, and be aware of the life you are creating for yourself. You remain the key to the success you desire.

Good morning Class of 2016,

Know the true value of time; snatch, seize, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness, no procrastination: never put off till tomorrow what you can do today. - Philip Stanhope

Good morning Class of 2016,

Take a moment today and evaluate your current level of effort expended on attaining your own education.  Do you feel like you are giving a level of effort that does not connect with the grades you are receiving? If this is the case, begin to speak with your teachers about the reasons behind why you are earning the grades you have received. You may be surprised to know you are only a strategy or two away from attaining what you desire.

If you care enough to know the truth, find the time to have honest conversations with your teachers about your academic improvement. Take full advantage of the time provided for you in your daily schedule.

The key to accepting responsibility for your life is to accept the fact that your choices, every one of them, are leading you inexorably to either success or failure, however you define those terms. - Neal Boortz

Today is Friday, July 10, 2015

Good morning Class of 2016,

Are you giving sufficient effort to achieve your stated goals for the trimester?  How much more time or effort would be needed to successfully reach your goals? If you haven't written down your goals AND mapped out a realistic plan for achieving them, it is unlikely you will succeed.  Take an honest evaluation of your current status and make meaningful changes to your schedule and work / study habits.  Faculty members are ready to assist you in creating a better plan, if you are dedicated to making meaningful upgrades to your current way of doing things.

Strategic Planning:
Goals (Long Term) & Objectives (Short Term/Steps) – Acceptance to college, Getting hired, Getting my license
Resources – What do you need to accomplish the goal? (Examples: Time. Money, Transportation)
Measurement – How will you know it’s accomplished? (Example: Acceptance letter, License)
Deadline – Set a date to achieve the objectives and goals by, because “someday” never gets here!
Notes or Comments – (Examples: Call to schedule DMV appointment; Reserve a Study Group room ASAP)
